Australian
Nutmeg or Native Nutmeg,
Myristica
insipida
and Myristica globosa
-
The Australian Nutmegs can grow
as small to large trees.
-
They produce velvet brown
fruits, which open up to reveal a black seed covered in distinctive strippings
of red flesh.
-
They are common in the Daintree
region and there is a good example near the toilet block at Mossman Gorge
carpark. They are found in various tropical forest types along the tropical
portion of the east coast of Queensland, into the NT, New Guinea and up into
many Pacific islands.
