Bar-Shouldered Dove

‘Bar-shouldered Dove’ Geopilia humeralis

Identifying Characteristics:

  • A pigeon-sized dove, mainly grey with golden barring on the shoulder.

Call:

  • Their call is a distinctive and familiar kwook-a-woo, similar to the Peaceful Dove's doodle-oh.

Distribution and Habitat:

  • They are found in New Guinea and Australia.

  • They are distributed on the east coast and in the tropical north.

  • They are often found associated with Pandanus plants, where they sometimes build their nests.
